The soundRUNNER Youth Running Program is an introduction into running. This program will help young athletes become aware of the importance of running in sport. An experienced and USATF certified coach will guide the three times weekly sessions through a series of games, runs, and activities designed to improve fitness. Additionally, running is a great way implement setting and achieving goals. These practices will also incorporate drills and exercises to improve posture and running efficiency. There will be an opportunity to run in trails as well.
soundRUNNER has a comprehensive program that will familiarize your child with running trails and track, and also offer them information about nutrition, health, and proper shoe fit, yoga and core stability.
The following is a brief overview of some of the activities and events that the young runner will participate in:
Balance exercises: Practice balance while looking utterly ridiculous.
Easy/medium/hard: On a grass field run the length at an easy pace, then alternate running easy/hard with rest in between.
Ladder run: Run in a line, person in back sprints to the front. When person gets in front, they yell, “go” to last person…
Form drills: These work on stride and efficiency. These drills are done for 20 meters or so, then walk back (always walk back because it promotes muscle memory). Each drill should be repeated 2 or 3 times.
Possible meet with other shoreline intermediate running groups.
